My story & musical background

Justine Ogbevire is a Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist, music producer, and sound practitioner whose creative work exists at the intersection of music, storytelling, and community expression. Rooted in hip-hop and jazz, her artistic practice explores classical influences, soulful R&B, and experimental sound design, embracing improvisation, vulnerability, and unconventional approaches to musical composition.

Her creative journey extends beyond music production into community-based arts, restorative practices, and cultural engagement. Through collaborations with artists, musicians, and community organizations, Justine has cultivated an artistic perspective grounded in human connection, collective experiences, and the transformative possibilities of creative expression.

Her musical background includes collaborations with Circles & Ciphers and Tommy Carroll, alongside performances in Chicago and internationally in Hamburg, Germany. Her work reflects a continuing relationship between artistic experimentation, social consciousness, and the communities that have shaped her creative identity.

Through projects such as The Love For Denim, Justine explores the emotional dimensions of sound, translating personal experiences, relationships, and artistic collaborations into immersive musical narratives.

A sonic fashion exhibition exploring love and identity through denim, experimental hip-hop, jazz textures, and creative expression. The EP also draws inspiration from Rafasi’s new collection, What Is Luv, creating a dialogue between the collection’s exploration of love and the music’s emotional storytelling.

Love, woven into sound

The Love For Denim explores the connections between love, memory, fashion, and the stories we carry.

Inspired in part by Rafasi’s What Is Luv collection, the EP connects fashion and sound as parallel forms of storytelling. Denim becomes a visual language for the memories, relationships, and evolving meanings of love that unfold through the music.

Drawing on the expressive character of denim—material shaped by wear, time, and lived experience—the project considers how relationships leave their own impressions on us. Through experimental hip-hop, jazz-inspired textures, and narrative-driven production, Justine approaches sound as an emotional fabric: layered, evolving, and deeply personal.

At the intersection of music and fashion, the EP invites listeners to reflect on vulnerability, belonging, creative collaboration, and the many forms love can take.

The Imperfect Tape reflects on purpose, dreams, vulnerability, and the freedom to create without the demand for perfection.

Across seven tracks, the project moves through moments of imagination, tenderness, uncertainty, and reflection. Its title embraces the unfinished nature of artistic and personal growth, suggesting that experimentation and imperfection are not obstacles to expression, but part of what makes it meaningful.

From Purpose to The End of The Mission, the tape invites listeners into an intimate journey of discovery—one in which completing a chapter does not mean the process of becoming is over.
